Name: Becky
Kirvan
Age: 28
Location: Essex/East Yorkshire - depending on the weather!
Occupation: Management Team Co-ordinator.
My Rallying: My
first experience of rallying was a one day rally course
at Silverstone Rally School for my 21st birthday. I
came home from that day absolutely buzzing and I knew
that this was a sport that I just had to get involved
in!
I
only really got involved with rallying properly in 2006,
previous to that I had only been able to go out spectating
at rallies. In 2006 I entered the Silverstone Rally
School Lady Quest competition and won! The Silverstone
Rally School scholarship included the training, obtaining
my MSA competition licence, the use of an MG ZR Rally
car and entry to 5 rallies in 2007.
My
first rally was the Lombard Rally in October 2006. This
was a real “baptism of fire” for me, starting in the
dark on the Thursday evening and going right through
to Sunday afternoon. It was full of all kinds of
incidents including many different weather conditions,
engine troubles and a lot of laughs
in the car with Amanda Cornforth, my co-driver, but
we did manage to get to the finish on Sunday which was
a real achievement!
That rally re-affirmed my feelings that this really was the sport for me and I went on to compete on 5 events in 2007, getting my National A
licence and winning my class on my final scholarship
event, the Swansea Bay rally.
Since then I have spent time working on my new rally car, a VW Polo aka Paddy! I now compete in selected events in and around the UK whilst also exhibiting at various motor shows with Girlracer.co.uk. with the aim of encouraging more women into the sport. At the shows I am able to share my great passion for rallying and also show off my lovely Polo of course!
Outside
Rallying: When I’m not at work or out rallying, music plays a
big part of my life. I studied music at university
with Bassoon being my main study. I now play in
a wind trio called “Trillium” and we perform at various
concerts, weddings and other events. I am also
a soprano soloist and spend a lot of my time singing
for weddings and concerts in the local area. |
